IMPHAL, Apr 2: A video clip that has INC general secretary Bhakta Charan Das allegedly blaming the Meiteis for the turmoil in Manipur is being used by some as propaganda for gaining votes, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Dr Kh Ratankumar at the party's office at BT Road, Imphal today.
Claiming the video being circulated is "fake", the former Minister and MPCC spokesperson said the video clip is of the party's general secretary addressing a press conference at the INC office in the early days of the conflict.
While INC general secretary Bhakta Charan Das had issued a clarification later, MPCC had taken down the video from the party's archive and all social media handles--Twitter (X), YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, Ratankumar said.
The video which was taken down and removed from all archives has been "doctored" and used as propaganda for political gains. This is very unfortunate, he said.
The MPCC spokesperson further clarified that the statement was made by Bhakta Charan Das individually.
"Not only the Congress', BJP's leaderships had also made individual and personal statements [regarding the conflict]. Union Home Amit Shah had also said that agitation was sparked by the High Court's judgement. Days later, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had also made a similar statement," Ratan-kumar said.
Central leaders, without understanding the facts and truth, have made statements blaming the Meiteis for the conflict, he added.
