IMPHAL, Apr 19 : Living Arts Academy Manipur (LAAMAN) Thang-Ta observed its 41st foundation day yesterday at the academy's office located at Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai.
The programme began with the gathering offering prayer to Ibudhou Pakhangba and by paying floral tributes to late Thang-Ta sintakpas (teachers) of the academy, said LAAMAN Thang-Ta in a statement.
Speaking at the occasion, Principal of the academy, Chungkham Sunilkumar said it should be endeavour of every person in the State to learn and promote the individual martial art form and make the most of the benefits it provides.
It was through Thang-Ta that Manipuris were able to maintain, conquer or defend their motherland for centuries but sadly the present generation has not been able to take advantage of the artform properly, he said.
"The academy has been working towards contributing in raising awareness of the manifold utility of this art-form handed over to us by our brave forefathers," he said.
Besides this, the academy has started LAAMAN Polo Club with a bid to preserve Manipuri ponies and re-establish the close link the people of Manipur once had with the ponies, he said.
Renowned playwright, Budha Chingtham; former Principal of Government Dance College, Ranjit Adhikari-mayum and others also attended the event as dignitaries.
