THOUBAL, Apr 19: Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party leader Okram Ibobi cast his vote at Athokpam Makha UP School, Thoubal district today.
After casting his vote for the 18th Lok Sabha Outer Manipur Parliamentary elections at 7 am, Ibobi said exercising franchise is the universal right of the people in democracy.
There have been reports about some armed groups firing several rounds of bullets to scare voters in Sugnu. This is a well developed plan to "kill" democracy, he said.
The former CM said, "Deploying security personnel like the Home Guards who do not have adequate firearms, instead of the Central Paramilitary Force, in the sensitive areas of the peripheries is very unfortunate."
Manipur's Inner Parliamentary Constituency and some segments of the Outer Parliamentary Constituency voted today.
While the voting ended peacefully in many polling stations, commotion, booth capturing and proxy voting were reported from several polling stations.
