IMPHAL, Apr 22: Two polling agents of INC candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam were threatened today as repoll was held at 11 polling stations of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan this evening, MPCC working president Kh Devbrata said that two polling agents of 3/11 Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School (Khurai AC) and 3/21 S Ibobi Primary School, Khurai Sajor Leikai (Khurai AC) were threatened by some persons.
One Yumnam Ajitkumar was acting as Congress agent at Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School polling station.
Someone called Ajitkumar from a mobile phone (8131063440) and threatened him saying, “You may eat your last meal, so eat what you want”, Devbrata said.
Ningthoujam Sitalukshmi was acting as Congress agent at S Ibobi Primary School polling station. She too was threatened through her family members.
Devbrata said that MPCC has lodged a written complaint with the RO about these incidents.
The authorities are expected to look into the matter and book all the culprits at the earliest, he said.
He accused BJP of resorting to the most extreme and ugliest forms of malpractices in this Lok Sabha election.
Apart from poll rigging, booth capturing and destruction of EVMs, BJP threatened even polling agents. Employing armed henchmen, BJP unleashed widespread violence and inflicted injuries on many people, he alleged.
Highlighting all these malpractices and disruptions, MPCC lodged a complaint with the  relevant authority seeking repoll at 36 polling stations of Inner Manipur PC and 11 polling stations of Outer Manipur PC.
But the Election Commission of India (ECI) came out with a notification for repoll at only 11 polling stations of Inner Manipur PC.
The ECI did not give any clear explanation for not holding repoll at the other polling stations, he said.
He went on to question how democratic establishments are functioning under the current dispensation.
To a query, the MPCC working president maintained that all the unwanted incidents including threatening of Congress agents witnessed during the election were results of the objections raised by people against BJP’s indulgence in rampant proxy voting and rigging.
BJP did not want the polling to go off smoothly in a free and fair manner, he added.
