IMPHAL, Apr 22: Categorically stating that it was never involved in elections held under the Government of India, the Pambei-led UNLF has appealed to all the people to stop all kinds of violence and abusing each other on social media over the election.
Because of the Lok Sabha election held in Manipur, the society has been fragmented and people’s unity has been collapsing, the outfit said in a statement issued by its media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom.
Internal conflict, violence and discord have been regular features of every election held in Manipur. The poll related violence and conflict seen today are nothing new, it said.
Urging all the people to reflect on the current situation of Manipur, the outfit asserted that a large number of innocent Meitei people were killed and properties worth crores were destroyed after armed Kuki militants unleashed terror since May 3, 2023.
Attacks on National Highways have not ceased, movement on highways is still restricted, displaced people are unable to go back to their homes and the Kuki militants may resume their aggression any time, it pointed out.
It then called upon all the indigenous people to stand united and fight the Kuki militants collectively.
“We will always stand firm against all attempts to disintegrate Manipur”, the outfit added.
