MLKTTCS, HLTTA pay tribute to heroes of Khongjom War

IMPHAL, Apr 23 :  Mangang Luwang Khuman Thang-Ta and Cultural Sindamsang (MLKTTCS), Huyel Lanlong Thang-Ta Association (HLTTA), Manipur and other Thang-Ta institutes joined in paying homage to the heroes of Khongjom War 1891 on the occasion of Khongjom Day.
 The teachers, officials and students of MLKTTCS attended the observance held at the institute's training centre at Khongman Mangjil Mamang Mill Leirak.
As a part of the function the attendees paid floral tributes to the photos of the heroes of Khongjom War including Paona Brajabashi, Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit, said MLKTTCS in a statement.
Meanwhile, HLTTA observed the day at Thang-Ta Shanglen in Yumnam Huidrom in association with the Imphal West Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association and Thang-Ta Maheikol, Yumnam Huidrom.
The programme was attended by Thounaojam Priyokumar, former secretary, Thang-Ta Federation of India; Huidrom Premkumar, president HLTTA; Heikrujam Cha Babu, secretary; HLTTA and Nongthombam Noren Meitei, secretary, Luwang Thang-Ta Academy as presidium members.
The students and functionaries of the institutes recalled the bravery and sacrifices of the fallen heroes of the Khongjom War and paid floral tributes to them.
Speaking at the occasion, H Premkumar said none of our forefathers deserted the battlefield but fought valiantly against the mighty British.
Highlighting that struggle for power and disunity among the royalties forced Manipur to lose its independence, he also observed that "power struggle within political class" has resulted into State's prevailing restive situation.
