IMPHAL, Apr 24: Condemning the bomb blasts which damaged a crucial bridge along Asian Highway 1 (National Highway 2) this morning around 12.30 am, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has demanded the State Government to hand over the case to the NIA and initiate an immediate and comprehensive investigation.
In a statement media coordinator of COCOMI highlighted the importance of NH-2, adding that this vital artery connects India and Myanmar, serving as a lifeline for 3.5 million people and also for trade and connectivity throughout Southeast Asia.
Addressing the 'tactics' employed by 'purported Kuki groups' to shift blame of the incident onto other entities, COCOMI pointed out the remote location of the blast site which is deeply entrenched within Kuki-controlled territory, making it implausible for anyone outside the Kuki community to operate in the area.
Maintaining that the bombing is not an isolated incident, COCOMI added that a similar attack occurred at Kwakta of Churachandpur district border area on June 21, 2023. The NIA investigated the incident, leading to the arrest of several individuals associated with the  Kuki community, said COCOMI.
In addition, another recent attack targeting LPG and petroleum tankers along National Highway 37, specifically in Kaimai area under Tamenglong district occurred on April 16, 2024. The perpetrators behind this attack identified themselves as the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), said the statement issued by COCOMI. Thus, COCOMI has demanded an immediate investigation to ensure justice for the affected 3.5 million residents of the State.
