PREPAK blames elections for divisions

IMPHAL, Apr 25: The proscribed PREPAK has blamed ‘Indian elections’ for divisions and polarisation among the people of Manipur (Kangleipak).
Saying that it is observing “11th Indian Colonialism Resist Day” on April 26 in remembrance of the atrocities committed by Indian military personnel in Kangleipak including the outrageous incident of Patsoi-Langjing, the outfit has called upon all the people to join the observation.
A statement issued by the outfit’s charge-de-affairs, publicity and propaganda LeibaakNgaakpa Luwang asserted that the present political leaders of Kangleipak who could not work in the interest of the Nation are outcomes of political and cultural domination of Kangleipak by India.
As long as Kangleipak remains under India, it would be impossible to see emergence of people who see Kangleipak as their own, it said.
Kangleipak’s legacy of producing resourceful and distinguished personalities will soon become a thing of the past. In future, it would be hard to see emergence of people/leaders who see the land as their own, genuinely love the motherland and are responsible unless they are groomed painstakingly, the outfit said.
If Kangleipak must be saved, it is inevitable to free the Nation from the alleged political subjugation by India, This can be translated into action only by a strong and collective freedom struggle,  it said.
It then called upon all the people to extend physical and moral support to the ongoing liberation movement even if they are unable to take part in the movement directly.
Elections held in Kangleipak under the Government of India are just a facade to portray Kangleipak as a self-ruled State before the world but in reality these elections only breed divisions among the people and consolidate the alien rule, the outfit alleged.
In the recent election, the  ruling party, in their efforts  to ensure their victory, resorted to proxy voting through armed persons. Enraged by the proxy voting, voters damaged EVMs. However, the ruling party has the audacity to claim that the EVMs were damaged due to confrontation between groups of voters and thus washed its hands of the ugly incident, it remarked.
In their efforts to win the election, the ruling party lured, coerced and intimidated many village volunteers who have the potential to become freedom fighters and turned them against the people including mothers who always cared for them, it said.
It was an unpardonable offence which demeaned the history of Kangleipak. Still the compassionate mothers are ready to forgive the ‘erring sons’, the outfit said.
Although the Prime Minister of India was claiming that the elections held in India are the world’s largest democratic exercise, these elections have never been a referendum or plebiscite on the National question of whether Kangleipak should become independent or not, it asserted.
Following the merger of Kangleipak into the Indian Union, the rules and age-old tradition of conserving forests were also destroyed.  Kangleipak lost more than 190 sq Kms of forest areas during the last two/three years, it said.
As a result, the State’s environment and ecology have been seriously degraded, and if this trend continues, Kangleipak will face many natural calamities and disasters, the outfit warned.
By imposing AFSPA and many other draconian laws,  the Government of India has been working to wipe out Kangleipak from the surface of the Earth, it alleged.
It then called upon all the people to raise a collective voice and ask the India military forces to leave Kangleipak.
It also appealed to the people to take out torch rallies on April 26 evening.
