IMPHAL, Apr 25
The Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI), Manipur State Committee, All India Trade Union Congress (MSC/AITUC) and All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNP) have strongly condemned yesterday's bomb blast at a bridge along NH-2 under Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the MSC/AITUC highlighted the tribulations faced by drivers and handymen plying along the Imphal-Jiri and Imphal-Dimapur roads due to the acts of some insurgent groups and other armed miscreants.
The drivers and handymen have been subjected to physical assault, demands for large unreasonable sums of money among others, said MSC/CPI.
In order to prevent such unfortunate incidents, the MSC/AITUC as well as other driver unions and CSOs had appealed to authorities to deploy a highway patrol force, without any success.
MSC/AITUC also pointed out the instances of economic blockades along these two lifelines of the State which affected lakhs of innocent civilians.
Thus, MSC/AITUC has demanded strict action against those responsible for the bomb blast at a bridge connecting Saparmeina and Koubru Leikha along the Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) under Kangpokpi district.
In addition, the AMNP asserted that the bomb blast is a direct challenge to the multi-community residents of Thonglen, T Waichong Chaluwa, Tamei, Tamenglong and Senapati districts.
Further, stressing on the recent attack on LPG and petroleum tankers around Kaimai along Imphal-Jiri road on April 16, AMNP demanded legal action against the perpetrators of the April 24 blast.
