Court sends man to judicial custody in arms loot case

IMPHAL, Apr 26 : The Court of Special Judge NIA Imphal East on Thursday remanded a 42 year old man  who was arrested by Ukhrul police along with arms and ammunition allegedly looted from 7th Manipur Rifles battalion on May 28 last year to judicial custody.
Nganingmi Vashum, s/o Yarchung Vashum of New Tusom Village under Jessami police  station in Ukhrul was produced before the Court through video conferring by Heingang police Station.
The counsel filed a remand objection and sought bail of the accused.
The Special PP, on the other hand, submitted that arms and ammunition were looted from 7th Manipur Rifles battalion by a mob.
The accused was arrested by Ukhrul police along with arms and ammunition including one 9mm carbine machine gun and one magazine on April 10.
The Special PP submitted that the accused is required to be remanded to judicial custody to figure out how the arms and ammunition came to his possession.
After hearing the submission of the Special PP, the defence counsel and on perusal of the case record remanded the accused to judicial custody till May 9.
He was formally arrested by Heingang police station from Ukhrul police station in connection with the case.
