5th Sangai Trophy : IVFA, EMVFC move into quarters

IMPHAL, Apr 26 : IVFA, Singjamei and EMVFC, Lamlai advanced to the quarterfinals of the 5th Sangai Trophy Veteran Football Championship as Group D winners and runners up today.
In the penultimate Group D match of the tournament staged this afternoon, IVFA fought from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw with MUSA, Singjamei and went top of the group table on 7 points.
Ningthem Korimayum handed MUSA a 1-0 first half lead through his goal at the stroke of the half-hour mark but IVFA, who had posted two of two wins, managed to pull level in the 47th minute courtesy of Th Baleshwore to deny MUSA all three points and helped finish IVFA unbeaten in the group campaign.
Meanwhile in the final Group D clash, Thoithoiba scored twice to help EMVFC blank FLAM 3-0 for the second win in the group campaign. Th Ramananda opened the scoring in the 26th minute to earn EMVFC a 1-0 first half lead before L Thoithoiba scored two goals in the 32nd and the 55th minutes to complete the 3-0 thrashing of lacklustre FLAM.
With today's results the quarter-final line up of the tournament has been completed.
