State observes World Veterinary Day

IMPHAL, Apr 27: The World Veterinary Day 2024 was observed at the Farmers' Training Hall at Sanjenthong Veterinary Complex today.
Observed under the theme "Veterinarians are essential health workers", the event was organised by Manipur State Veterinary Council in association with Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur.
Speaking at the event, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Secretary Michael Achom highlighted the importance of the work veteri- narians do and urged them to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity.
He said those in the profession should interact and work with farmers who rear animals.
Stating many private players have emerged in the field increasing challenges, Michael said the veteri-narians should work with dedication and sincerity.
He lauded the veteri-narians and said they have dedicated and played important roles in times of out- break of many diseases including the African Swine Fever and Bird Flu etc.
Former Director of Veterinary and Animal Husban- dry Services, Dr S Joykumar said the contribution of the veterinarians in the society is huge, and urged them to work with sincerity.
Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services' Director Dr RK Khogendrajit said veterinarians play major roles in facing many deadly outbreaks of diseases in poultry and animals.
Livestock sector is a major component of the National economy, and the roles the veterinarians play in improving livestock health is a huge contribution, he said.
As part of the event, former Directors, Joint Directors and Deputy Directors of the Department were feted with gifts and mementos.
