IMPHAL, Apr 28 : Womenfolk of Tingri and adjacent villages stopped the CRPF personnel posted near Khongnangpokpi Kom Village from leaving the area for election duty, today at around 6 am.
The  CRPF personnel, who have been assigned election duty outside Manipur returned to their camp following the obstruction by the womenfolk.
Khongnangpokpi is a Kom Village in Kangpokpi district which is located close to Imphal West.
It is reported that about 60/70 CRPF personnel came out from the temporary camp near Khongnangpokpi Kom Village in several buses and trucks to go for election duty in another State but they were stopped by a number of womenfolk at Tingri who placed heavy objects in the middle of a culvert.
Reportedly, the CRPF personnel requested the womenfolk to let them pass by assuring them that they will return  to Khongnangpokpi Kom Village after discharging their election duty.
The womenfolk, however, rejected  the request of the CRPF personnel by arguing that many paramilitary force personnel who left the area never returned.
The womenfolk also told the CRPF personnel that  IRB/MR personnel being deployed in the area is very low and they alone  cannot protect the people of Tingri, Chirik and Leikinthabi.
The CRPF personnel returned to the temporary camp as the womenfolk didn't allow them to move ahead.
Speaking to the media, one of the women said that Kuki militants can attack Meetei villages in the area anytime if adequate security personnel are not posted near Khong- nangpokpi Kom Village and nearby hill ranges.
Saying that Kuki militants couldn't attack them due to the deployment of CRPF and IRB/MR personnel near Khongnangpokpi Kom Village, she urged the Centre and the Manipur Government to not send the security personnel posted in the area to other places.
