Relief materials to be handed out from today CM extends healing touch to Phubala

Moirang, May 9 :  Chief Minister N Biren has said that the Government will start distributing materials to repair houses which got damaged in the hailstorm/thunderstorm of May 5 from tomorrow onwards and the same will be made available to all the affected families within five days.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while inspecting several houses at Phubala Gram Panchayat in Moirang AC which were damaged in the natural calamity, today.
He also interacted with the locals who are taking shelter at Ibudhou Loktak Maru Laibung at Phubala, Sunusiphai Community Hall, Ereima Ima Laibung at Naranseina and Ibudhou Thangjing Laibung at Thamnapokpi.
During the visit, N Biren said that there is change in rainfall pattern and severity of storm due to deforestation and other anthropogenic activities.
Saying that he is disheartened to witness people suffering because of the recent hailstorm/thunderstorm amid the crisis in Manipur, the Chief Minister assured that the Government will provide all possible assistance to the victims of the natural calamity.
Further stating that the Government will first distribute GI roofing sheets, N Biren appealed to the local volunteers to assist in repairing the damaged houses.
The local volunteers can start patching/mending the damaged houses, he said and the added that the Government will try to arrange the materials needed for repairing the houses.
On crop loss, the Chief Minister said that the he will consult with the officials of Agriculture and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department to help the affected farmers.
Saying that he is happy to see people in Moirang planting different types of vegetables despite the prevailing situation, he appealed to them to continue their hardwork.
He said that the underlying idea behind the Meetei people worshipping Umang Lai is to conserve nature.
It is obvious for the natural disaster to take place if people continue to cut trees in a large scale at forest and hills, he said and added that the Government, nonetheless, has been working to rectify all the wrongs that have been done step by step.
He then sought support from the people to make the schemes and programmes taken up by the Government to protect forest areas and the State at large successful.
The Chief Minister went on to state that the Govt will take up different measures to resume crop plantation at the High Canal side of Loktak Lift Irrigation.
Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti and LDA Chairman M Asnikumar accompanied the Chief Minister in the visit.
