46th Senior Men and Women's State Level Handball Championships underway

IMPHAL, May 10 : The 46th edition of the Senior Men and Women's State Level Handball Championships kicked off today at Mairengkhong Puthiba Ground under the aegis of Manipur Handball Association.
The tournament hosted by Mairenkhong Rising Club (MRC) features 13 men's teams clustered into two pools and 5 women's teams.
In the men's opening match (Pool A), MPSC beat BBA 35-21 courtesy of prolific performances from H Ingocha (10 goals), Th Robi (9 goals) and Y Shushul (5).
O Okendra and N Dinachandra also added 4 goals apiece to MPSC's tally as N Saratchandra, Th Hemanta and Y Becker scored a goal each.
For BBA, Mayang Imphal, Richard scored highest 9 goals as Th Ingocha added 6 goals. K Ibomcha (2) and Ch Thoithoiba (2), Thoiba (1) and Malem (1) also found their names on the scoresheet for the Mayang Imphal side.
In other Pool A matches, ESU, Wangkhei thumped NSU, Khuman Lampak by 30-20 goals and SSC, Khurai edged past NSU 17-15.
Romario (11), Sashikanta (6), Goutam (5), Jimikantar (3), Ortego (2) led the scoring in ESU's big win as Jahu (5) and Dutta (5) topscored for NSU in a lost cause.
For SCC, Premkumar (6), Ranjit (3), Zidane (3), Baskar (2), Atangba (2) and Sharat (1) found the target as Balwia (4) and Borish (4) led the scoring for NSU.
In the Pool B matches, KVWA, Mayang Imphal defeated YLK, Chingarel Tejpur 35-26 and CYDOL, Chajing overcame OYO, Kongpal 27-18.
Totonba (11), Ratan (8) and Kiranjit (6) led the scoring for KVWA in the team's victory as Shilheiba (8), Lakpati (7) and Bikramjit (6) led the scoring for YLK.
Meanwhile, Syamkumar (4), Bhagat (5), Kiran (3), Ingocha (3), Parkison (2), Romario (2), Bobby (2), Anish (2), Kh Boby (2), Ajit (1) and Sidhartha (1) led CYDOL to the opening game win as P Robert (4) and General (4) led the scoring for OYO.
In the meantime, MPSC kicked off the women's league campaign with a 25-12 win over YLK thanks to contributions from M Dimple (10), Ch Luxmi (11) and Sandhyarani (5).
Ksh Apabi also added thrice for the winning team as Bebin and Khomeiton scored a goal apiece. On the other hand, Pitalika (4) and Nomik (3) led the scoring for the losing team.
In the second women's league match, YLK defeated KKYLDO 10-2.
Nomika and Sonia scored two goals apiece for YLK as Nomika L, Meneka, Roshni, Bijaya, A Biya and Leria scored a goal apiece. Both the goals for KKYLDO, Kongpal came from Geetasana.
