UBFC, YPHU triumph in 16th Manipur State League

IMPHAL, May 11 : United Brothers Football Club (UBFC), Ukhrul and Young Physique's Union (YPHU, Lalambung emerged victorious in today's matches of the 16th Manipur State League at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.
UBFC ended their five game losing streak today in the Group A competition with a 2-1 beating of USA, Khurai this afternoon courtesy of a double from Themchui RS after USA had taken an early lead.
USA went ahead 14 minutes into the game with Haobijam Tombi converting a fine chance but Themchui put UBFC on level terms by scoring the equaliser in the 35th minute.
With the score locked at 1-1 till the half time, the second half saw both teams struggling to find the winner until Themchui scored his second to complete the turnaround. USA fought hard to return into the game but UBFC held onto their lead to register all three points for the first time in 6 matches.
After 6 rounds of the 7-team Group A competition, AFC, Thoubal are on top of the table with 15 points as LYCC, Chandel sit on second spot with 13 points. UBFC meanwhile are at the rock bottom of the table.
Later in a Group match, YPHU blanked Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) 3-0 as Mangte Herochung came off the bench after 75 minutes to net a late brace. YPHU started slowly and entered into the break with a slender 1-0 lead thanks to a 27th minute strike from Laishram Benjohnson before Mangte Herochung scored two goals back to back in the 81st and the 85th minute to make it 3-0.
With the result, YPHU continue to remain fifth on 9 points from 2 wins and three draws after 7 matches in the 8-team Group B competition while TRAU stay 7th.
