CM calls for collective efforts to protect environment

IMPHAL, May 19 : Chief Minister N Biren has called upon all the people to contribute to the efforts aimed at preserving environment.
Ahead of the World Environment Day which falls on June 5, N Biren led a cleanliness drive at Khwairamband Keithel and surrounding areas of Imphal city today.
Writing on the cleanliness drive on social media, the Chief Minister appealed to all the people to plant more trees, cut down use of plastics and contribute to the efforts aimed at preserving environment.
He also appreciated the contributions of Government officials, local clubs and organisations towards preservation of environment and keeping the State clean.
“It is the bounden duty for each and every one of us to preserve and keep the environment clean. Let us cultivate and adapt to an eco-friendly lifestyle”, Biren wrote in a social media post.
The social service camp was participated by officials of MAHUD Department, Imphal Municipal Corporation, volunteers of local clubs of Moirang, Bishnupur and Imphal.
Rajya Sabha Member Leisemba Sanajaoba, YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHED Minister L Susindro, Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti and Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha also took part in the social service camp.
In the course of the cleanliness drive which started early morning, waste materials scattered or piled up along Nagapamal Road, Naga Nullah, Thangal Bazar road and Paona Bazar road were removed and disposed.
The Chief Minister also made a proposal to organise similar social service camps around Imphal city on the first day of every Manipuri calendar month.
He further proposed expansion of the cleanliness drive up to Chingmeirong in the North, Tera Bazar in the West and Imphal Airport in the South.
Fire tenders of Manipur Fire Service were also used in moping up the three Ima Keithels of Khwairamband.
