IMPHAL, May 19 : People of Ithai Wapokpi and adjacent villages have urged the State Government to revoke the order issued to carry out an eviction drive at  Ungamlen Pat in Kumbi AC, Bishnupur .
They said that they have taken a resolution to launch a stern agitation with different civil society organisations if the order is not withdrawn.
The resolution was taken during a meeting convened at Ima Phadibi Laibung at Ithai Wapokpi by the Ungamlen Lake Protection Committee (ULPC), today.
Speaking to the media, ULPC general secretary Y Gopen said that Ungamlen Pat has been providing a source of livelihood to many before the construction of Ithai Barrage.
Many fish farms at Ungamlen Pat, however, have submerged after the construction of Ithai  Barrage, he said and  added that they have been using 200 paris of land at Ungamlen Pat which belong to the Fishery Department on lease.
Stating that many people have been rearing fishes at Ungamlen Pat, Gopen urged  the  Government to not carry out any eviction drive at different sites of the lake  where people rear fishes.
Vice president of Ithai Wapokpi Mahila Mandal Kram Premila, on the other hand, said that the Government hasn't released even a penny for the damage done to Ungamlen Pat by Ithai Barrage.
Expressing suspicion that the Government may be discreetly working to allot a portion of Ungamlen Pat to private individuals, she urged the Government to cancel the order issued to cancel the proposed eviction drive and also not allot even a piece of land of Ungamlen to any individual.
