IMPHAL, May 20 : A team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) visited JNIMS Hospital today to assess the health condition of two children who were involved in a tragic accident yesterday which claimed the lives of four people in Ukhrul.
The four who lost their lives include three children, two of them being siblings and an adult driver, said a release issued by MCPCR.
The team was led by MCPCR Chairperson, Keisam Pradipkumar and accompanied by members of MCPCR Habibur Rahman and Ch Anita.
The two 11-year old boys, namely, Chihangam Chahongnao s/o Leishipem Chahongnao and Sokhanwung Wangwa s/o Y Solem of L Phungthar village, PS Somdal in Ukhrul district, are the only survivors of the unfortunate accident and currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS Hospital.
During their visit, the MCPCR team urged the Superintendent of JNIMS Hospital to provide all possible help to the two children who are fighting for their lives.
MCPCR also made an appeal to the Superintendent to set up a child friendly space within the hospital premises where the patient party's children can rest and lactating mothers can breast-feed their babies during their stay in the hospital.
Considering the nature and cause of the Ukhrul accident, MCPCR has recommended that the accident be declared a "disaster" as it was caused by the thick foggy/cloudy condition resulting in sudden invisibility.
MCPCR has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
