Arms missing case transferred to NIA Guwahati

IMPHAL, May 21: The Special Court NIA Manipur has ordered the transfer of case records and material exhibits of the 2nd Manipur Rifles arms missing case to Special Court NIA Guwahati.
The case involves former MLA Saikul Assembly Constituency Yamthong Haokip, Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) chief David Hangsing who is also husband of Saikul MLA Kimnao Haokip Hangsing, UKLF chairmen Lhonkoson Haokip alias Soson Haokip and 9 others.
The order to transfer the case record and exhibits to the Special Court NIA Guwahati came as per a direction of the Supreme Court on April 29 after a petition was filed by accused KRA chief David Hangsing and UKLF chairmen Lhonkoson Haokip.
The Special NIA Court today ordered to forward the records of the case along with material exhibits to Special Judge NIA Guwahati.
The material exhibits include 6 mobiles phones, 36 numbers of 9mm Pistol along with magazines, one Double Barrel gun, one Single Barrel gun, one gun (license) and some live rounds of .32 Bore Pistol, live rounds of 9mm Pistol and live rounds of AK Assault Rifle.
The Court order said that the NIA Branch Office Imphal should take necessary permission to enable the exhibits to be transported from Imphal to Guwahati, Assam by flight and to assist in the timely transmission of records and exhibits.
Notably, 56 numbers of 9mm Pistols along with Magazines were found missing from a well guarded arms kote of 2nd Manipur Rifles between  2014 and 2018.
It may be noted that the NIA took over the case from Imphal police in April 2018 following an order of the Union Home Ministry, Government of India.
During the investigation of the case, 13 persons were arrested by the State police and the NIA.
The arrested persons include Laishram Anilkumar (35) of Sangaiporou Mamang Leikai,  Thokchom James alias Tonao (28) of Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi Mamang Leikai, Paonam Shantikumar (50) of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai, Haobam Brojendro (39) of Kwakeithel Nganapithong, Ngamboi Haokip alias Raju (38)  of Loibol Khunou Waroiching Leimaram Maning, Nellikattil Podiyan Damodaran (59) of Ommulur Pathanam Kerala staying at Family Quarter 2nd MR, Mathurabashimayum Hiranjoy Sharma alias Ngoubi (34) of Tera Sapam Leirak, Laishram Damodor alias Thembung (27) of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, Thokchom Diamond (31) of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, former MLA Yamthong Haokip (75) of Saikul, KRA chief David Hangsing (37) of Sadar Hills and  UKLF chairmen Lhonkoson Haokip alias Soson alias SS Haokip (47) of Khangbarol village Tengnoupal.
