IMPHAL, May 23 : The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has asked the MAHUD Minister and Commissioner to step down on moral  ground over an alleged anomaly in a recruitment process of the Town Planning Department.
Addressing a press meet at its office today, KSA general secretary Sanjoy Khullakpam said that they had submitted a memorandum to the MAHUD Minister and the Chief Secretary  to cancel the recruitment of Assistant Town Planner and Assistant Architect of the Town Planning Department but no action has been taken up as of yet.
Declare the result of the recruitment as null and void and let the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) conduct the recruitment examination again, he demanded.
Stating that the recruitment of the gazetted posts (Assistant Town Planner and Assistant Architect) should have been conducted by MPSC, he claimed that the recruitment, however, was done by the department itself while the Chairman of MPSC was out of station.
Sanjoy went on to claim that the two posts were recruited by holding only interviews through nepotism and favouritism and the written test was skipped.
It was clearly mentioned in the office memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel  and Administrative Reforms on July 16, 2021 that authorisation  will be given to MPSC to hold recruitment examinations for Group A and Group B posts, he said.
Alleging that the department should have conducted the written test even if it was trying to complete the recruitment process in a time-bound manner to take some financial package, Sanjoy maintained that there was no transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.
Further claiming that the son of a former officer also got selected for one of the posts, Sanjoy called for a probe into the recruitment.
He also said that Cabinet taking decisions again and again to stop corruption would be meaningless if the Government Departments don't work with a sense of accountability and transparency.
The involvement of the MAHUD Minister and Commissioner in the bogus recruitment drive could not be denied since they have remained silent over the matter, Sanjoy said and asked the  MAHUD Minister and Commissioner to step down.
