IMPHAL, May 3 : A two-day training programme on "Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and Eco-Niwas Samhita (ENS) 2018" was kicked off at Hotel Daani Continental, opposite Thangmeiband THAU Ground today to promote construction of buildings with reduction of energy consumption in mind.
The training programme was organised by the State Designated Agency (SDA), Manipur of Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltc (MSPDCL).
Speaking as the chief guest, A Joychandra, Architect, president, MFA stated that the training program was conducted with the goal of reducing electricity/energy usage in homes across the State.
While building a new house, it should be designed in such a way to ensure that it is well-ventilated with adequate and well-placed doors, windows and ventilators to cut down on installation of fans.
In densely packed cities where space is a highly priced commodity, builders will try to install fans, ACs and exhaust fans. But architects should design buildings in such a way that electricity is efficiently used and conserved, said A Joychandra.
He also highlighted "Green Tree Building" which are constructed from waste materials and designed for low energy consumption as a necessity of the current times.
During the two-day training programme, subject experts will teach the participants on how to reduce electricity bills due to large consumption of electricity in cities where natural lighting is rare, thus necessitating the use of artificial lights even during the daytime, he said.
The first day of the training program was attended by H Shantikumar, Singh, Managing Director, MSPDCL as the functional president and M Rabi Singh, Nodal Officer, SDA Manipur, Executive Director (Tech), MSPDCL as the guest of honour.
During the technical session of the event, Green Building expert and  ECBC Master Trainer Rana Pratap P spoke on the topic "A Brief Overview of Scope, Components, Compliance Mechanisms of Energy Conservation Building Code".
