School on Wheels for displaced students launched

IMPHAL, May 5: In a first, Governor Anusuiya Uikey launched “School on Wheels” to provide students in relief camps access to education.
The initiative was launched today at Bal Vidya Mandir Complex, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur is implementing the initiative with an aim to reach out to the students in the relief camps in the State.
Under the "School on Wheels" initiative, a school bus equipped with a library, computers and sports items will visit relief camps.
Speaking at the inauguration function held at Sudarshan Hall, Governor said the venture which is being implemented by the Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti is a good initiative to reach out to the displaced students in the relief camps.
She said the incidents which have happened since May 3, 2023 have affected thousands of people including the students.
Children should not face any kind of inconvenience. The School on Wheels will certainly reach out to the students and help them get access to education, she said.
The Governor then asked the Chief Secretary to take steps to extend support to the Samiti in enhancing the number of the buses.
The Governor continued that she understands the pain and sorrow of the displaced people in the relief camps.
Uikey said she has instructed the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary to take steps to initiate processes for a permanent settlement of the displaced people in the relief camps.
Describing the role of the Samiti, the Governor said, Vidya Bharti Vikas Samiti started working in the field of education in Manipur in the year 1979 under the name of Vidya Bharti Shiksha Vikas Samiti Manipur.
Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikas Samiti is running 15 schools in 6 districts of Manipur, and 36 Sanskar Kendras in 8 districts are also running as formal primary education.
The Samiti is providing free education to 150 displaced students of Moreh, Churachandour, Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Senapati district.
Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, Dr Pawankumar Tiwari, Sanghthan Mantri Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra, Yumnam Khogen Singh, president Vidya Bharati Shikasha Vikash Samiti Manipur, Vice-Chancellors of CAU, MUC, teachers, parents and students attended the function.
