Bail plea rejected

IMPHAL, May 6: Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today rejected a bail application filed by 4 non locals arrested in connection with tampering and fraudulent cash withdrawal from Manipur State Cooperative Bank ATM Booth and remanded them to judicial custody till May 15.
The accused persons, Narendra Pratap (30) of Paska village Uttar Pradesh, Himansu Singh (30) of Paska village Uttar Pradesh, Ajeet Singh (24)  of Dmani Rajapur village Uttar Pradesh and Sarvesh Singh (28) of Dmani Rajapur village Uttar Pradesh were produced before the Court by City police.
While the police prayed the Court for taking them to judicial remand, the defense counsel of the accused filed a remand objection along with an application for releasing them on bail.
During the hearing today, the Investigating Officer submitted that the four were arrested after the Manipur State Cooperative Bank Imphal Branch (Thangal bazar) lodged a complaint on April 30 about some professional gang members tampering an ATM installed at the bank premises and fraudulently withdrawing cash during February-April 2024.
A similar case of tampering and fraudulent ATM cash withdrawal were also detected at the MSCB Imphal East Branch located at Porompat.
During the period from February to April, around Rs 3.98 lakh in cash was found fraudulently withdrawn from ATMs.
After they were arrested during investigation, the accused persons disclosed that they had tampered with the ATM located at Thangal Bazar.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the prosecutor and the defense counsel, rejected the bail application and remanded the four to judicial custody till May 15.
