IMPHAL, Jun 26 : An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 ML struck the Imphal area around 7.10 pm today.
According to a press release issued by the Seismological Observatory, Department of Earth Science, Manipur University, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 24.409°N/93.772°E near Saiton area of Moirang sub-division in Bishnupur district.
The depth of the earthquake has been estimated to be 41 km.
The press release said that just 2 km from the current epicentre, a major 7.3 ML magnitude earthquake known as the Kumbi Earthquake struck on July 1, 1957 causing extensive damage throughout the State.
