20th Governor's Trophy Junior Tennis Championship begins

IMPHAL, Jun 7 : The 20th edition of Governor's Trophy Junior Tennis Championship kicked off today at the tennis complex of Officers' Club here at Lamphel under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association.
The opening day of the championship saw Gracy RK and Merliah Warepam securing U-14 girls singles final tickets.
Gracy RK blanked Mehreen Khan 7-0 in a semi-final match of the competition to book her final ticket. Merliah Warepam also secured a similar victory over RK Valeska to complete the final line up.
Yohenba, Dhanraj, Chingkhei, Sudarshan in U-14 boys singles semis
Meanwhile in the U-14 boys singles competition, K Yohenba, Dhanraj, Chingkhei and G Sudarshan advanced to the semi-finals with easy first round victories.
K Yohenba defeated Ryan Khomba M 9-2 as Dhanraj edged out Soham Keisham 7-3; Chingkhei eased 6-0 past RK Unnat and G Sudarshan overwhelmed Yoimayai 7-0 in other matches.
State set for U-12 boys singles semis
Chingkhei Nongthombam, Thoudam Rancher, Suhaan Kalam and Yoimayai meanwhile progressed to semi-finals of the U-12 boys singles competition.
Chingkhei who got a first round bye eased past Dhanaraj Loitongbam 9-0 (best of 17 games) to set up a semi-final date with Rancher who defeated Md Aariz Jamil 6-1 in a second round clash.
In the meantime, Suhaan Kalam saw off Wungshungmi 6-0 in a second round clash and will meet Yoimayai Irungbam who defeated RK Unnat 6-0 in another second round clash.
Earlier, Wungshungmi defeated N Lanchenba 9-1 to enter the second round.
U-10 boys singles
The semi-final line up of the U-10 boys singles competition was also completed today with Ch Diamondson and Korou Keisham securing first round byes and Suhaan Kalam Khuleibam and Wungshungmi securing first round victories.
Suhan got the better of Aariz Jamil 6-3 to set up a semi-final date with Ch Diamondson while Wungshungmi eased to a 6-1 win over Ch Yudish to set up a semi-final date with Korou.
U-12 girls singles
The day also saw completion of the semi-final line up of the U-12 girls singles competition with RK Valesha and Shelza Asem securing first round victories and Y Gucci and RK Gracy getting first round byes.
RK Valesha overwhelmed Irungbam Masileima 6-0 to set up a semi-final date with Y Gucci as Shelza edged out Mehreen Khan 6-4 to set up a semi-final date with RK Gracy.
Y Gucci vs Shelza Asem in U-10 girls final
Y Gucci and Shelza Asem will face off against one another for the title of the U-10 girls singles competition.
Gucci eased 6-0 past Masileima in a semi-final clash today while Shelza outlasted Muktashree 6-1 in another semi-final clash.
