IMPHAL, Aug 2: Observing that there was nothing wrong in what Congress MP Alfred Kanngam Arthur said in the Lok Sabha, National People’s Party (NPP) National vice-president Y Joykumar has appealed to all the people not to misinterpret the MP’s speech.
Speaking to media persons at NPP office, Naoremthong, Joykumar remarked that the speeches made by the two Lok Sabha Members from Manipur were quite impressive.
There was nothing wrong in their speeches, he asserted.
It is a matter of grave concern that some people have been misinterpreting the two MPs’ speeches with an ulterior motive to mislead the public and whip up tension, Joykumar said.
He also hailed the joint peace declaration made by Meitei and Hmar bodies at Silchar on Thursday.
He then appealed to all sections of Meitei and Kuki people to come to an agreement as done by the people of Jiribam.
Joykumar further condemned the brutal police crackdown on IDPs who were taking out a protest rally demanding resettlement at their original homes as well as the merciless assault on a journalist.
He said that the Government should take up appropriate action against the erring police personnel.
The State Government should take up resettlement measures without any further delay and it should ask for a rehabilitation package from the Centre, Joykumar said.
He said that the Manipur crisis was further amplified by PDF and CDF militants from Myanmar.
Not all Kuki militants are evil but KNF (Zougam) militants based near Henglep are the most devilish, he remarked.
It is the duty of the Central forces to defend the State and protect the citizens from foreign militants like PDF and CDF, he added.
