IMPHAL, Sep 3 : YOSC, Khurai went on top of the girls competition in the 37th State Sub-Junior Basketball Championships by defeating RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya 26-23 for the second straight victory this evening at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
YOSC having beaten LMYVA, Lalambung 30-6 in their opening match, confident YOSC enjoyed a 18-5 lead at halfway mark before securing the comfortable 26-13 victory thanks to 14 points from Khushi.
Lanchenbi and Tanushree in the meantime contributed 8 and 4 points in the team's victory as Inunganbi (6 pts) and Rupashree (5 pts) led the scoring for RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya.
In another girls' match staged earlier, Catholic School won 24-4 against LMYVA, Lalambung riding on Nancy's big contribution of 16 points. Mahelli, meanwhile, added four points to the team's tally as Martina and Babylia picked two points apiece. Hoshika scored all four goals for LMYVA.
Catholic School, Sainik School victorious in boys' matches
Catholic School capped their Group A campaign with a 23-12 win over St Xavier School Majuron this morning riding on contributions from Ksh Jimmy (14 pts), A Wanglen (6 pts), O Barun (2 pts) and M Goldson (1 pt).
Kairi and Ningailung scored 6 points apiece for St Xavier School in this match.
In the Group B match staged after this match, Sainik School secured their place in the semi-final with a 54-20 win over Youth Club, Uripok riding on the exemplary performance from Paras who contributed 37 points alone.
Yash and Lucky in the meantime contributed 8 and 7 points as Aman Kumar added two points to the tally.
Th Billgates on the other hand led the scoring for Youth Club with 18 points as Shriyans scored two points to help their team finish with 20 points.
