IMPHAL, Oct 13 : Manipur Amateur Karate Do Association (MAKA) team finished the 4th KIO North East Zone Karate Championship campaign with a haul of 11 medals including 2 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals. The zonal championship concluded successfully at IG Park, Itanagar yesterday.
Keinoumayum Suiab bagged a gold medal in the -67 kg category kumite event for U-21 men at the championship while the other gold medal was won in the kumite event by Kongkham Nancy who competed in the cadet girls’ -47 kg category.
Meanwhile the State karatekas who settled for the silver medals include Khomdram Promila Chanu in the U-21 women’s kata event, Ningombam Victor in the junior men’s -61 kg category kumite event and Ningthoujam Saya in the cadet girls’ -54 kg category event.
The bronze medallists in the meantime include Keinoumayum Suaib (senior men’s -67 kg category kumite), Konjengbam Bheegyan (Cadet boys’ -57 kg category kumite), Khomdram Promila Chanu (senior women’s -68 kg category kumite), Bogimayum Rabana (junior women’s -59 kg category kumite), Ngalsana Nongmaithem (sub-junior girls kata) and Konthoujam Markio (sub junior boys -55kg category kumite).
The gold medallists and the silver medallists in the zonal event will be representing Manipur in the KIO All India Karate Championship scheduled to be held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium from December 1 to 2, said MAKA in a statement while congratulating all the medal winners.
