IMPHAL, Oct 15: The National Highway 137A- Mayai Lambi will be shut indefinitely from October 16 midnight, Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup (MALAL) has announced.
The decision to shut the vital road was taken due to persistent failure of the Government and its department concerned to repair the dilapidated road, MALAL said. The road will be shut indefinitely from the midnight of October 16 until works to properly repair it begins, the Lup said.
The Lup said, Mayai Lambi has been neglected for long by the Government and the Public Works Department despite repeated appeals from the public to properly repair it.
It said the PWD doesn't act until people come out on the road and threaten to impose bandh.
Fearing public outrage, authorities have tried to mend the potholes. However, due to lack of quality, the condition of the road has deteriorated, it added.
The road has caused many motor accidents and caused grievous injuries to many. Merely filling the potholes will not appease the people this time, said the Lup.
The Mayai Lambi must be properly reconstructed and strengthened. Until serious works for reconstruction begins, the road will be shut indefinitely from the midnight of October 16, said the Lup.
