In a major crackdown on the illegal transportation of explosives, the Assam Rifles on Saturday apprehended two individuals and seized a huge consignment of explosive materials from a vehicle near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram.
The operation took place at Vaphai, a remote village in the Champhai district, which shares a porous and sensitive border with Myanmar. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a vehicle and found a massive stockpile of explosives being transported illegally.
The seizure included 5,800 pieces of gelignite rods, 10,500 metres of Cordtex (detonating cord), and 6,000 pieces of detonators.
The two individuals involved in the transportation were identified as Lalrinsanga and Vanlalliana, both of whom were immediately taken into custody and later handed over to the local police for further investigation. North East Live
