Infants who are premature or have pre-existing health issues face an even higher risk.
Dr GarG further said “Babies’ airways are narrower than adults’. Even a small amount of swelling or irritation from pollutants can have a much bigger effect than it does on grown-ups. Add immature immune systems and longer exposure in indoor spaces with poor ventilation, and babies become highly vulnerable.”
It’s not just outdoor smoke that poses a threat. During festivals, indoor air quality also suffers, especially in homes without proper ventilation. Particles from firecrackers can get trapped indoors, increasing the exposure time for babies.
