MUMBAI, Oct 24
Four youngsters from Manipur, Thanreisem Shimrah, Solan Khamuiwo, Yureihor Kashung, and a young woman, Ngachanwon Shaiza, were allegedly brutally assaulted and racially abused on Wednesday night at Khar Danda, Mumbai.
The incident began over a petty issue when Solan Khamuiwo accidentally toppled a parked bike while attempting to sit on it.
The mishap quickly escalated as a group of over 10 locals confronted the youths, launching a violent attack that included physical assault and racial slurs. Eyewitnesses, as per reports, described the assault as unprovoked and severe, highlighting the intensity of the violence faced by people from North-East India in urban centres.
Despite the attack, the victims have not yet had a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Khar Police. They have formally written to the police, demanding immediate registration and detailing the brutal nature of the assault. The delay in action has added to their distress and frustration, raising questions about the responsiveness of local law enforcement in cases of racial violence.
This incident reflects the continuing issues of racial prejudice and violence faced by North-Eastern communities across India. Authorities in Khar have yet to respond publicly, and the victims are urging the police to take urgent steps to ensure justice and prevent such attacks in the future.
