IMPHAL, Oct 25 :  At least 10 houses were gutted by a massive fire that broke out in Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Saturday, officials said.
The fire, reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out at the residence of one Ethem Khan at Moreh's ward no 5 and quickly spread to engulf nine other adjoining houses.
There was no report of any casualty in the fire, though 10 houses were completely destroyed, officials said.
NE Live reported that in a rare and heartening gesture, firefighters from Myanmar assisted in controlling the blaze
Local residents, along with personnel from the Manipur Fire Service, Police, Commandos, and Assam Rifles, rushed to the spot to contain the inferno.
As efforts intensified, a firefighting team from Myanmar crossed the international border to lend support, a rare display of goodwill and cooperation between the two neighbors. Their timely assistance helped prevent the fire from spreading further into nearby localities, which had already been evacuated as a safety measure.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by IGAR (S) said that major fire incident that erupted in the densely populated Pangal Basti area of Moreh today was swiftly contained through the timely intervention of Assam Rifles.
The blaze, which threatened to engulf nearby residential clusters, commercial establishments, and vital public infrastructure, was brought under control before it could escalate into a large-scale disaster, it said.
Responding immediately to a distress call, a team of 63 personnel from Assam Rifles was mobilised to the site.
Equipped with firefighting gear and trained in disaster response, the troops worked relentlessly under challenging conditions to contain the rapidly spreading flames. Their coordinated efforts, carried out in close cooperation with local authorities, fire services, and community members, proved instrumental in averting loss of life and minimising damage to property, it said. The operation also involved the evacuation of vulnerable civilians from the danger zone. Assam Rifles personnel extended first aid to those affected by smoke inhalation and minor burns, ensuring that medical attention was provided on the spot.
