Elders urge

IMPHAL, Oct 28 : The All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Confederation (AMASCWCON) has resolved to urge the Government to fully implement the National Policy for the Older Persons, 1999 in the State. 
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, AMASCWCON general secretary S Saratkumar Sharma said that National Policy for the Older Persons, 1999 which was amended in 2011 is yet to be fully implemented in Manipur.
Noting that the Central and State Governments have launched 22 welfare programmes for senior citizens, including healthcare and pension schemes, he added that the Confederation has resolved to ensure these programmes reach the intended beneficiaries.
He said that AMASCWCON was formed as per the direction of All India Senior Citizens Confederation based in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. He stated that AMASCWCON's first meeting was held on October 9 this year, followed by the second meeting today, during which a resolution was passed to urge the Government to fully implement the National Policy for Older Persons, 1999 in the State. Saratkumar further stated that AMASCWCON is an apolitical, non-profit, and non-religious organisation dedicated to promoting the well-being of senior citizens.
