Imphal, Oct 30 : In observance of National Blood Donation Day, a felicitation programme for blood donor organizers was held at Shija Auditorium, Langol on October 30.
The event was organized by Shija Blood Centre & Transfusion Services, a unit of Shija Foundation, and sponsored by the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur, and Shija Hospitals. The theme for this year was “Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives.”
Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD, Shija Hospitals, graced the event as the chief guest with Dr H Teresa, Director, SBTC, Manipur as the guest of honour and Dr Chetan Khundongbam, Secretary, Shija Foundation as the functional president.
More than 70 individuals attended, including 24 blood donor organizers from across the State.
Dr C Rajmani Singh, Medical Officer-in-charge, Shija Blood Centre & Transfusion Services, delivered the welcome and keynote address, acknowledging the contribution of blood donor organizers and encouraging sustained voluntary blood donation.
Dr Teresa shared that National Blood Donation Day was first observed in 1975 and in Manipur since 1998.
She noted that private blood centers contribute one-fourth of the State’s total blood collection and called blood donors “silent and unrecognized heroes.”
As per 2024 data, Manipur has achieved 30% voluntary blood donation, with a goal to reach 100%.
Meanwhile, Dr Palin highlighted that Shija Blood Centre was the first in Manipur to introduce apheresis, with single donor platelets proving lifesaving during dengue outbreaks.
At the event, blood donor organizers were felicitated with mementos and certificates.
Dr Chetan Khundongbam described them as “guardian angels,” and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Hemabati Salam, Consultant, Transfusion Medicine.
