Women writers acknowledged on foundation day of Leimarol Khorjeikol

IMPHAL, Oct 3 : Leimarol Khorjeikol (Leikol) observed its 25th foundation day (silver jubilee) at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, today.
Leikol is an organization of women writers of Manipur.
During the function, floral tributes were paid to the photos of deceased Leikol members viz MK Binodini, Khaidem Pramodini and Takhellambam Thoibi, following which a two minute silence was observed in honour of deceased members.
Renowned writer Prof Ch Jamini was conferred the Women of Excellence award.
Addressing the function as chief guest, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi highlighted the significance of art, sports and literature in projecting Manipur's identity to the world.
He also noted that Leikol has been actively working to promote Manipur's culture and heritage.
Emphasizing the significant role played by Manipuri women in society, Ibobi stated that they have been at the forefront of various issues, contributing immensely to the community.
The former Chief Minister wished Leikol continued success.
Prof Rajen Toijamba, Convenor of the Manipuri Language Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, said that Manipuri women writers and poets have earned a respectable position on the global platform.
He was speaking as the guest of hour of the event.
Saying that Manipuri literature has been progressing over the years, Rajen expressed his wish for more writers from the State to emerge and contribute to the literary landscape.
He also emphasized that Manipuri writers are in no way inferior to writers from other States or beyond.
Leikol president Ch Subhadhani appealed to all members to work hard and strive for the betterment of the organization and Manipuri literature.
A souvenir was also released as part of the function, following which cultural items were showcased.
