IMPHAL, Oct 3: One more Kuki militant has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the brutal killing of four innocent Meitei civilians including a father-son duo at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou near a water treatment plant on January 18, 2024 evening.
Source said that the accused was arrested by a team of NIA and 36 Assam Rifles on the intervening night of October 1 and 2 along with five other cadres of UKNA from Henglep area.
The accused has been identified as Jamkhogin Guite alias Jamkhogin Lupho alias Pepsi (26) s/o (L) Songam Guite of Tolbung village, Chandel district.
He has been taken into the custody of NIA in connection with the case registered at NIA regarding the Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou massacre of January 18, 2024.
An NIA team took Jamkhogin Guite alias Jamkhogin Lupho alias Pepsi to Guwahati from Imphal Tulihal International Airport yesterday at around 5.30 pm, said the sources.
The sources also said that Jamkhogin Guite was allegedly involved in attacking and storming the offices of DC Churachandpur and SP Churachandpur in February last year.
He had undergone treatment at Guwahati after he sustained bullet injury in the police action to control the unruly mob.
In compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued on February 2, 2024, a case was re-registered by NIA Imphal under different sections of UA(P) Act and Arms Act after an FIR was already registered at Bishnupur police station.
During the investigation, a video clip of the brutal killing of one person by an armed miscreant, suspected to be main accused Lunminsei was obtained and taken into record.
On January 18, 2024, Kuki militants belonging to UKNA, KNA and KNF and armed with sophisticated weapons, came down from Lamlai Kabui village and sneaked into the water supply plant located in the middle of paddy fields at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou and murdered four civilians including a father-son duo who were working as caretakers of the water treatment plant.
The victims were identified as Oinam Bamonjao, his son Oinam Manitomba, Thiyam Somorendro and Ningthoujam Nabadip, all from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou.
The Kuki militants stabbed Nabadip to death after binding his hands and mouth on the bank of Khujailok Turel near the water treatment plant.
After killing Nabadip, the Kuki militants shot dead Oinam Bamonjao, Manitom-ba and Th Somorendro.
Further, the NIA made formal arrest of Lunminsei Kipgen alias Langinmang alias Mang alias Levis (35) s/o Songin of Mamong village, Henglep block, Churachandpur district from Central Jail Lokhra, Guwahati who was lodged there in connection with another FIR case registered against him by Assam Police.
Lunminsei Kipgen was arrested on June 8, 2024 on the same charge of murdering the four people at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on January 18, 2024.
