While hopping the Durga Puja pandals all around Kolkata, a British senior citizen gets surprised on noticing burqa-clad ladies enjoying the festivities and wishes people all over the world take lessons out of this!
Despite chaos and hullabaloo for 10 days along with exhibition of economic might; this message of amity remains the only beauty of Durga Puja in West Bengal which always emit light of brotherhood with an all-embracing mindset.
Swami Vivekananda - - - that epitome of humanity and Hindu-Muslim brotherhood - - - had started the ritual of Kumari Puja by selecting a 4-year-old Kashmiri Muslim girl in Kheer Bhavani in 1898 !
Yes, this all-embracing sage used to see the Divine Mother in all female entities irrespective of religion.
By drawing inspiration from Vivekananda, the Durga Puja organisers in the Northern fringes of Kolkata had chosen Nafisa - - a Muslim girl - - as their "Kumari" (in 2023) to be worshipped as Mother Goddess in human form so as to acknowledge divinity in a person.
(To be contd)
