IMPHAL, Oct 4 : Manipur got off to a flying start in the 50th Sub-Junior Boys’ National Basketball Championship league campaign (Pool F) with a comprehensive 101-49 win over Andhra Pradesh this morning.
The championship is organised by the Basketball Federation of India and the Uttarakhand Basketball Association at Parade Ground Indoor Stadium, Dehradun.
Manipur’s Thokchom Gison stole the show scoring 34 points alone across three quarters as Potsangbam Shriyans (19 pts) and Keithellakpam Anderson (17 pts) shared a bulk of 37 points to set up the big win.
Thiyam Billgates also made double digit contributions scoring 16 points including two triples as Okram Barun added 8 points, Achom Phoenix added 4 points and Phurailatpam Ashuman added 2 points.
Vanhi V Valala meanwhile led the scoring for Andhra Pradesh netting 17 points including two three pointers as Neel Zubin and Jaswanth Kumar added identical 10 points apiece.
Munna Kails also added four points to the team’s tally as Shanmuk Rao, Mithili SC and Gowtham added 2 points apiece.
Manipur dominated the game from the beginning and led the first quarter 30-6 thanks to major contributions from Th Gison and K Anderson.
O Barun and A Phoenix added 8points in the second period to make it 38-19 as Andhra Pradesh added 13 points before Manipur added another 30 points with Gison, Shriyans and Anderson leading the attack to take a commanding 68-29 lead after three quarters.
The final period saw Manipur amass 33 points with Gison, Billgates and Shriyans sharing 29 points to seal the comprehensive 101-49 victory.
Manipur will play Assam in the next match tomorrow before facing Meghalaya in the next league match on October 6.
