Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship medallists return to warm reception

IMPHAL, Oct 4
State athletes who participated and brought home medals from the 3rd Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship were accorded a warm felicitation upon their return at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport today by the Pencak Silat Association of Manipur, family members and local supporters.
Notably, Manipur athletes contributed as many as 4 medals including 1 silver and 3 bronze medals to National tally at the continental championship organised by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation under the aegis of International Pencak Silat Federation from September 25 to 30 at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex Srinagar.
Elangbam Atomba and Thangjam Abung Meetei clinched the silver medal in the boys’ Seni Ganda event of the championship as Thokchom Yaiphabi won an individual bronze medal in the girls’ Seni Tunggal event.
Meanwhile, Leikhram Thoithoiba and Thounaojam Romio settled for the Tanding bronze medal in the boys’ 59-63 kg and 63-67 kg category competitions.
Manipur’s Laishram Ranjit also attended the event as an official, said Pencak Silat Association of Manipur in a statement.
The State association also expressed happiness over the achievements of the athletes and the officials.
