Amur Falcons start to arrive
IMPHAL, Oct 7 : On their seasonal migration from Siberia to southern Africa, Amur Falcons have started arriving at Guangram village in Tamenglong district.
Amur Falcons, locally known as Akhuaipuina/Tamuanpui were sighted at Guangram village today.
Being a regular roosting site for Amur Falcons, Tamenglong is on the international map for conserving these long distance migratory birds.
This year also the Forest Department, Manipur in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India is going to tag three more Amur Falcons with satellite transmitters to continue the ongoing research works, said a press release issued by the DIO, Tamenglong.
Like the past years, the district administration and local communities will be active in protecting the falcons, issuing bans on hunting and trapping, and working to raise awareness about the birds' significance.
As per Forest Department officials of Tamenglong, the successful conservation of the Amur Falcons in Tamenglong highlights the potential for harmony between mankind and nature.
The most important roosting villages in Tamenglong are Chiuluan and Guangram, it added.
