IMPHAL, Oct 8 : An individual from Kamjong rescued a leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) kitten, locally known as Keijenglang, and handed it over to People for Animals (PFA), Manipur.
According to a PFA press release, the kitten was found sold by a Myanmar refugee at Wangli Market.
Shimreipam from Kangkum Village in Kamjong purchased the kitten for Rs 2,000 and handed it to PFA through a friend from Yairipok.
PFA stated that the kitten is weak and has been transferred to an animal shelter for care and recovery.
PFA commended Shimreipam for his efforts in preserving wildlife.
Meanwhile, PFA said that its volunteers, with assistance from Forest officials, rescued a monocled cobra from a Baleno car belonging to William Okram of Thoubal Ningombam.
The cobra had entered the car while it was parked at Maipakpi Hospital, it said.
Saying that the snake was not detected during an inspection at a workshop, the PFA said that the snake was spotted near the wiper when William was at Haokha.
