IMPHAL, Oct 31: Civil society organisations of Noney have strongly condemned a house raid reportedly conducted by some unidentified armed groups in full combat fatigue, targeting a private resident at Noney Bazar on the intervening night of October 30 and 31.
A joint statement, released by several CSOs including RNCM Longmai Luangrian, NWU, VCLA, Village Authority Longmai, LLB and Zeliangrong Union-Longmai Zone, said the civil bodies held an emergency meeting today at the Longmai Bazar Board office and condemned the "raid" in the strongest terms.
The CSOs termed the conduct of the armed groups in the civil residential area "highly provocative and a crime against humanity", and said such activities could jeopardise peace in the region. "It has been a mandatory practice within the Naga community that any act amounting to crime irrespective of the nature is subjected to adopted laws as per the custom and tradition and no individual/groups in power or authority is above these traditionally established laws within our land," the CSOs said, urging all armed groups to refrain from conducting any activities in the future aimed at intimidating and threatening the public.
