IMPHAL, Oct 31: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur-Students’ & Education Affairs (TYCM-SEA) has submitted a representation to the Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University (MU) requesting a change in the date of BEd 1st Semester & 3rd Semester examinations fixed on December 24.
The representation it submitted on October 29 urged the Vice Chancellor to fix another convenient date for the examination not close to December 25 Christmas. The intention and action of the Manipur University (MU) in including December 24 as a date for examination is disappointing for the tribal students. Such actions and practices reflect discrimination and undermine the spirit of the joyful Christmas festival, said the TYCM-SEA. The period from December 23 to 24 is a busy time for tribal Christian students, as they usually return to their respective villages for preparations and arrangements related to the Christmas festival, it said. If the tribal students appear for the examination on December 24, it will be impossible for the tribal students from far flung areas to return to their respective villages on the same day after the completion of the examination, it added.
It urged the VC and authorities concerned of the Manipur University (MU) to take necessary actions to change the date of examination in the larger interest of the tribal students.
