Al Bashid’s 126, Ph Jotin’s 55 on Day 2 power Manipur to first innings total of 400 runs

IMPHAL, Nov 9 : Mizoram were 56/4 and trailing by 344 runs at stumps on Day 2 as Al Bashid scored a ton and Ph Jotin hit a half century today to power Manipur to the first innings total of 400 runs in their fourth tie of Ranji Trophy Plate Group at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, Anand (Gujarat).
Resuming the day at 201/3 (after 65 overs) courtesy of Ulenyai’s scintillating knock of 90 runs with the assistance of Y Karnajit 40 and Al Bashid yesterday, Manipur rode on Al Bashid’s 243-ball 126 (15 fours and 1 six) and Pheiroijam Jotin’s 106- ball 55 (7 fours and 1 six) to add 199 runs (off 409 deliveries) and raised a respectable total of 400 runs in the first innings.
L Kishan Singha 35 off 69 balls also made a significant contribution before Manipur folded up their first innings.
For Mizoram, Karthik CA (2/91 in 22 overs), Marema (2/97 in 43 overs), Bobby (2/81 in 23 overs) and Thankhuma (2/31 in 11 overs) shared a bulk of 8 wickets in this innings as K Vanrotlinga (1/56) returned with a wicket.
After the innings break, Mizoram had a stuttering start. Captain Bishworjit made the inroad early by trapping Marty lbw out on 3 for the first wicket in the 4th over before bowling out Mizoram skipper Thankhuma on a 6-ball duck for the third wicket in the 12th over after Jotin Pheiroijam removed a key threat- Armaan Jaffer, on 2 for the second wicket in the 11th over. Lamabam Ajay then claimed the fourth wicket in the form of Sahil Reza 23 off 66 to reduce Mizoram to 46/4 after 23.1 overs.
K Vanrotlinga 10 and Jehu Anderson 10 were unbeaten as Mizoram closed out the day at 56/4.
