IMPHAL, Nov 13 : Ringku Kangujam's 40-ball 53 went in vain as Manipur slumped to an 8-wicket loss to Mizoram in the third tie of the ongoing State A Trophy at IS Bindra Cricket Stadium today.
It was the second straight loss for Manipur after a 7-wicket win over Arunachal Pradesh in the opening tie.
Put in to bat first, Manipur were bundled out for 135 runs in 35 overs and Mizoram strolled to the target in 28.1 overs with 8 wickets left to spare.
Ringku was the lone warrior today but he ran out of partners after forging a remarkable first wicket partnership of 53 runs off just 30 balls with Heishnam Manikanta (28 off 16; 7 fours).
Rinku held on to complete his 53 before he was dismissed by Ahmaa for the fourth wicket in the 3rd delivery of the 16th over as the scoreboard read 98.
His departure marked the turning point of the innings as remainder of the batters fell easy preys and were dismissed cheaply.
Johan was the pick of the Mizoram bowlers as he returned with 4/27 in his spell of 10 overs that included two maidens while Ahmaa (2/23) and Sahil Sharma (2/21) shared another four wickets.
Prem Layak (1/18) and Kima (1/1) also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In reply, Mizoram cruised to the target within 28.1 overs at the cost of just 2 wickets, riding on Tetea's 54-ball 47 after Johan (40 off 44) and Sahil Sharma (44 off 68) gave a flourishing start by stitching 63 runs for the first wicket.
Somokanta (1/24) and Ringku (1/18) shared a wicket apiece for Manipur in this innings.
Manipur will play Sikkim in the next match on November 15 at the New PCA Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
