IMPHAL, Nov 14: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has reiterated its call for deletion of “Any Kuki tribes” from the Scheduled Tribes List of Manipur.
A team of TIM held a meeting with BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and the party’s North East coordinator Dr Sambit Patra at Hotel Imphal this morning.
The TIM president submitted a memorandum to the BJP leaders outlining the Thadou community’s concerns and appeals for peace and political restoration in Manipur.
TIM urged for legislative action in the Parliament to delete the redundant category “Any Kuki tribes” (AKT) from the Scheduled Tribes List of Manipur, introduced during the NDA Government in 2003.
TIM stressed that the present NDA Government must now rectify the issue, as recommended by the BJP-led Manipur Government, in order to ensure fairness, National security and the integrity of Manipur.
TIM called for immediate restoration of political stability and a democratically elected Government in Manipur, noting that the BJP holds a clear majority and is therefore positioned to reinstate governance after a prolonged period of President’s Rule.
The TIM leaders urged BL Santosh and Dr Sambit Patra to recognise and support the Thadou peace initiative.
The TIM leaders said that they have been working collaboratively with Manipur’s major civil society organizations and Meitei counter- parts toward restoration and conflict de-escalation.
They also sought protection and encouragement of all peace activists, especially in light of threats and violence from extremist elements opposing dialogue.
The TIM delegates called upon the BJP Central leadership to address internal discord and take necessary action against any legislators found to be instigating mob unrest or contributing to public disorder, in order to restore public trust and administrative stability.
Inclusion of Thadou representatives as legitimate stakeholders in any future dialogue, peace talks, or Government-led negotiation platforms was another key point raised by TIM.
The memorandum noted that while results may not yet be concrete, the TIM-led peace efforts have also served as an important ice-breaking entry point for negotiations between Meitei community and Kuki subscribers.
Both BL Santhosh and Dr Sambit Patra acknowledged the peace efforts led by TIM.
They noted TIM’s proactive role as a constructive force in Manipur. The leaders affirmed that restoring a democratically elected Government remains a key priority and conveyed their best wishes to the TIM leadership and team, according to a press release issued by TIM joint general secretary Manggou Thadou.
TIM has also expressed gratitude for the positive engagement and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to work with every stakeholder, Government institution and community organization toward restoring trust, unity, and permanent peace in Manipur.
