IMPHAL, Nov 14 : Prepa-rations for the 12th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 are in full swing at Hapta Kangjeibung and the Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre, with stringent se-curity measures in place despite escalating boycott calls from civil society groups and displaced com-munities.
The tourism event is proposed to run from Novem- ber 21 to 30, marking its return after a two-year hiatus due to the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, claiming over 260 lives and displacing more than 60,000 people.
Construction of numerous temporary stalls, stages, and the Sangai Theme Park at Hapta Kangjeibung has been underway for several days, with extensive manpower working round the clock.
Workers involved in the project stated that the number of stalls has increased compared to the previous edition, with approximately 30 percent of the stall construction now complete.
Simultaneously, the stage setup and beautification of the Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre are progressing rapidly, with significant manpower deployed to expedite completion for the festival’s cultural events. Painting of walls and iron railings near the main festival venue is actively underway.
Blacktopping of the road on the northern side of Hapta Kangjeibung and the road leading to the Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre from the southern side is in progress, aimed for completion before the festival begins.
To ensure smooth operations and prevent disruptions from those boycotting the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival, a significant number of security personnel have been deployed at key locations across the venue.
