IMPHAL, Nov 15 : In a remarkable achievement for Manipur and the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry has secured the first prize in the Nanhi Muskan Project 2025, marking its second consecutive win after achieving the same honour in 2024.
As per a release issued by RIMS, the award-winning project, led by Dr Wairoikpam Bhoomika, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, reflects the department’s continued dedication to strengthening community-based oral health initiatives.
The project was conceptualized as a comprehensive grassroots outreach programme aimed at improving the oral health and overall well-being of children belonging to underserved and underprivileged communities.
Over the past year, the project implemented a well-structured strategy that included awareness campaigns, health education sessions, preventive dental care, and early intervention services.
These sustained efforts resulted in heightened oral hygiene awareness, a measurable reduction in oral disease burden, and enhanced oral health responsibility among parents, teachers, caregivers, and children.
The department extended heartfelt appreciation to the faculty members, junior residents, interns, and students of RIMS whose relentless commitment- both in the field and behind the scenes- was instrumental to the project’s success.
The initiative also benefited significantly from the support of the RIMS administrative leadership, community health workers, school coordinators, Government departments, local partners, and NGOs, all of whom played vital roles in connecting the project with its beneficiaries.
Most importantly, the project team expressed profound gratitude to the children and families whose trust, participation, and enthusiasm made the initiative truly meaningful and impactful.
